I No Longer Go To Church
I no longer go to church. To some it may be a shocking statement, but to me it is quite natural. To understand how I have gotten to this point, you must realize where I've been in my quest for spirituality. I was born into a Baptist Family whose beliefs required that they attend church everytime the doors were unlocked. I attended church in this fashion as long as I lived at home. When I left home, my attendance became more sporadic. I also changed my membership to another Baptist Church. As the years passed, I changed churches and rate of attendance many more times. There always seemed to be something missing. The one thing that definitely was not missing during all of this church-going was the passing of the collection plate. At some churches that I attended, several offerings were made at each service. In my opinion, with the number of churches in operation and the amount of money being collected, there should be a lot less hurting and suffering people in the world. One day it dawned on me that I don't need a middleman to collect money from me to maintain my relationship with God. I can have a personal relationship with God for FREE. So, the money that I was tithing to the preachers/pimps is now being used to directly help those who are less fortunate. Instead of being used to build mega-churches, finance luxury cars, and pay for fancy wardrobes, my money is being used to feed those who are hungry and assist with utility payments. This certainly may not be the path for everyone to follow, but it works for me. |
